What Breed for You, the Beagle

By Carol Jade.

THE BEAGLE A scent hound The Beagle is a loveable little dog pleasing to the eye and to own. He is an ancient breed developed and recorded in existence in the 16th Century, founded mainly because of the requirement to have a small, short on the leg hound which could be accompanied by huntsmen who were on foot. Men and women of any age were then capable of accompaniment this jolly chap, who was capable of hunting both hare and rabbit.

His aetiology was probably a mixture of Foxhound and Terrier, with even some Spaniel blood added, the trio stamping his personality to that of spirited, lively, gay little hound, and who carried a highly scented ability to track prey for his hunter. Bred to be diminutive, they are the smallest of all the British hounds, and therefore a comfortable guy to handle and manage within packs.
The Beagle makes a lovely companion with his black, brown and white colouring to his compact little body. His lively and pleasant disposition makes not only a superb hunter, but chum for the whole family.
