Trains, Plains and Caravans....

I should confess at this point to three significant flaws in my character. I own a caravan A lot of my best friends are Morris dancers I am, and have been for close on 50 years, a plane spotter I could go on at some length extolling the benefits of (a) - I get to see lot of different people and places and (b) - good ale, good company and good music, but I will confine myself to justifying ( c ) with a certain smugness having just returned from the Plane Spotters’ Paradise of St. Maarten in the sunny Caribbean where it is possible to do any one of several things.

These include lounging on a beach in the middle of January with a cold beer in one hand and sun cream in the other, contemplating the meaning of Life, The Universe and Everything (fans of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy will understand) while having your hair parted by a Boeing 747 on short finals.
Larnaca’s Mackenzie Beach may look good, but the approach to Princess Juliana International Airport on St. Maarten knocks it into a cocked hat and is an entirely suitable place for a plane spotter celebrating his 60th birthday to be.
