IRIS FOLDING
Hi everybody. I hope that those of you who celebrated Easter in March had a nice time and those who enjoyed Green Monday will get time off for their Easter Holiday this month and have a lovely break. A Happy Easter to you all.
‘Iris Folding' My students make cards using this technique which is so called because the piece left in the centre resembles the iris of an eye. I had to promise them that it is not as difficult to perform as ‘Tea Bag Folding’, and is something that anyone can do as it makes for a wonderfully relaxing activity. The Iris Folding strips can be bought locally and the patterns downloaded from the internet. The strips are folded in two lengthwise and simply layered according to the numbers given on the pattern. I always start my students off with the triangle pattern to enable them to learn the technique to begin with after which they can make a card using any of my 50 to 60 designs. Of course, like everything I teach, students can move away from the traditional method of layering the paper like for example using strips made from origami paper, wrapping paper, old magazines, advertising pamphlets (at last a use for junk mail), ribbon or even strips from carrier bags (lots of talk about that lately)!
