Our World Tour - Day 8 - 14

By Krys & Phil Lyon.

Tuesday Jan 9: Brian’s beauty sleep disturbed at 3.00am by a phone call from UK. Caller under impression that he is tucked up in bed in Grassington not on the other side of the World. We drive north on a gray and rainy day, made more acceptable by a delicious fish and chip supper eaten from the paper in a waterfront restaurant in Manganui. A misty visit to 90-mile beach (actually nearer 45 but OK if you count the journey back) where tourist buses hurtle up and down between high and low tide and a local 4-wheel drive seems to make a modest living hauling those with more brains than sense off the sand.

We head back to Russell and make the local Pizza parlour with five minutes to spare. Consume same while watching England getting stuffed by Australia in a 20-20 game where some bright spark has decided it will liven things up if they mike the players up and interview them while facing a rock-hard ball hurtling towards them at 80+ mph.
“Hang on a minute, can I call you back”
Day 4; 9; Wednesday Jan 10:
The sun is out at last and we book a trip round the bay before it changes its mind. Krys has managed to lose her glasses of which there is no sign at the local Police station despite an All Points Bulletin issued the previous night and a watch on all ports.
