Day 45; Thursday February 15: We awake to the dawn chorus of Magpies and Galahs and flocks of the ever-present Corellas - a rather pretty white and yellow parrot whose voracious eating habits have branded them as vermin.

This final section of the Great Ocean Road leading to the outskirts of Melbourne, was built by servicemen newly-returned from the First World War as a memorial to their fallen comrades, using nothing more than picks and shovels. Suburbia, though, is fast approaching and we take a short cut via the Queenstown ferry south of the city to the Mornington Peninsula on the eastern bank of Port Phillip Bay.
Overnight with Russell and Lisa, another benefit of Barbara’s near-nationwide nework of friends and work colleagues, not forgetting the genial Mouse - a house guest from Russells’ 40th birthday party the previous weekend who hadn’t got around to going home yet.
Drinks, food and more drinks on the decking outside the house - the Australian is, above all things, a generous host - followed by a glass of port and bed.
