The Mulan Chinese Restaurant opened in April this year and is situated just off Makarios Avenue, Larnaca.  It is housed in an impressive new building, where the decor is red and cream, the walls, the table cloths, the covers on the chairs, all blend in beautifully. The wood flooring and a huge aquarium all add to the ambience of the place, along with a picture of Mulan on one of the walls.

Mulan was a young girl, who according to legend, pretended to be a boy and joined the Chinese Army to save her aging father having to go to war. Whilst in the Army she distinquished herself with her bravery and was asked to stay on after the conflict. She refused and went home to her family. A famous poem "The Ballad of Mulan" was written about her and she became a symbol to women in difficult times. "Mulan" isMagnolia Liliiflora, "Mu" means wood and "Lan" means orchid. And as most children will tell you, Walt Disney made a cartoon film all about her exploits, which was so popular he made a sequal to it!
