Millionaires Sport

Cyprus is set to receive a major tourist boost with the advent of the expensive, fast, dangerous and high profile sport of power boat racing. A decision will be made shortly, but UK based Powerboat P1 management are considering two extra events for the 2008 season.

Last week a glamorous presentation was held in London, honouring the sports top personalities in the field. Master of ceremony was TV presenter and top former racing driver, Tiff Needell.
The first award, Host City of the Year, was presented by P1’s owner, Asif Rangoonwala, to Portimao, Portugal. This newly introduced trophy recognises that city whose warmth, enthusiasm, infrastructure and organising skills have all contributed to staging a world class event.
Lord Beaverbrook then took to the stage to present the boat, Sun Lik Beer, with P1 Moment of the Year for a dramatic ‘twitch’ as the boat hit wash from a competitor in the Belgian Grand Prix of the Sea.
